Advertising disclosure

How Syndication Breakdown is funded, what advertisers can and cannot influence, and what this site refuses to do for money.

How this site makes money

Display advertising, served through Google AdSense. That is the whole model.

There is nothing else. No paid subscriptions, no gated reports, no consulting, no courses, no newsletter sponsorships, and no revenue of any kind from the real estate industry this publication writes about.

What advertisers can influence

Nothing that appears in an article.

Advertisers do not choose the topics, do not see anything before it is published, do not review anything after it is published, and have no mechanism for requesting a change. Ads are selected and served by Google's systems based on the page and on the reader, not by me. I do not know in advance which advertisers will appear on which article, and neither does anyone else.

An advertiser may well be a firm in this industry. That has no bearing on what is written about the industry, and it is worth saying explicitly, because a firm's advertisement appearing next to an article about sponsor fees is a coincidence of ad targeting and not an endorsement in either direction.

What is refused

  • Sponsored articles and paid placements. Declined.
  • Affiliate links to syndication platforms, custodians, self-directed IRA providers, cost segregation firms, legal templates or software. There are none on this site, and none are planned.
  • Referral or finder's fees of any kind. Accepting one for introducing an investor to an offering can itself require a license.
  • Link insertions into published articles. Declined.
  • Directory listings, "top sponsor" features and vetted lists. This site does not rank or recommend firms, at any price.
  • Lead generation. No form on this site passes your details to a third party, and there is no investor list.

Proposals in these categories are not answered. This is not a negotiating position.

How ads are labeled

Every advertising unit is labeled Advertisement above it. Ad units are placed between sections of an article, never inside a table, a figure, a worked example or a source list, and never styled to resemble editorial content.

While the site has no AdSense publisher account configured, no advertising container is created at all — no border, no label, no reserved space and no placeholder. If you are not seeing ads, it is because none are being served.

Cookies and your choices

Advertising involves cookies and similar technologies. What is set, by whom, and how to change your mind is covered in the cookie policy and the privacy policy. You can reject non-essential cookies at any time from the Cookie settings link in the footer, and if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, this site treats it as a standing opt-out without asking you again.

Rejecting personalized advertising does not remove advertising; it makes it contextual rather than based on a profile.

If this changes

If the funding model changes in any way — an affiliate relationship, a sponsored series, a paid product — it will be described on this page and on the about page before it takes effect. A disclosure that arrives after the fact is not a disclosure.
